Leenalchi, the Korean gugak group that masterfully blends traditional Korean music with modern sounds, has just released a new track!

Their 2021 hit Tiger is Coming gained immense popularity, and I was such a fan that I even set it as my ringtone! 🤗🤗🤗

Now, they are back with the third pre-release single from their highly anticipated second full-length album. The new track, God of Mud, will be officially released on February 6 at 6 PM (KST). I can’t wait to hear it!

Leenalchi made waves with their first album by reinterpreting the traditional Korean pansori tale Sugungga. However, this time, they are taking a completely new direction, introducing an adventurous story set against themes of war and resistance to violence.

This album does not merely reinterpret traditional pansori; rather, it builds an original narrative and characters to create an immersive world. The protagonists of this universe, Dummy and Jaroo, embark on a perilous journey through a world engulfed in chaos, war, and destruction.

Much like the moral-driven themes in traditional folktales, Leenalchi appears to be crafting a story with significant symbolism. Given that the war in Ukraine is ongoing, this track might be making a commentary on modern conflicts. 🤔🤔

In particular, this album seamlessly integrates electronic sounds, contemporary rhythms, and powerful percussion elements into traditional gugak influences. God of Mud musically portrays the confrontation and conflict between the protagonists and an ominous, powerful force.

Since November 2023, Leenalchi has been releasing a new song each month, gradually unveiling their second album’s narrative. Rather than merely dropping singles, each track introduces its own unique story and musical experiment, enriching the album’s overarching world-building.

✔️ December – Hee-Hee Ha-Ha 🎉 (A lively, mischievous track reminiscent of a goblin festival!)
